Stockbridge 7 July 1829 --My dear Friend --

I have not time, even to thank you as I ought, for your very welcome letter -- -- Miss Danforth goes off -- it seems to me who have been at Lenox all the time -- very suddenly -- -- She has been here in what according to our up Country phrase has been a tedious spell of weather & she will think it peculiar to our mountains -- Donot beleive her in this regard -- In all others we commit ourselves to her generosity -- She is a very highly cultivated & interesting woman, and has been of one of the greatest pleasures that my poor Sister could have had -- To such pleasures she is alone susceptible now --

My dear friend -- We are disposed to quarrel at the post-ponement of your visit -- The Thermometer at 90 indeed! It has hardly been above freezing point for the last fortnight _____ Susan 2 says you must come before Nature’s banquet is ended -- early in September at farthest -- It is dismal when we begin to shut our doors --

-- I am rejoiced to hear of Susan’s convalescence -- -- I do not beleive that long engagements are favorable to the health of sensitive subjects -- --

My love to Lucy & William -- and all my Cambridge friends -- beleive me
