Private Practice
Frederick May 13. 1820 Dear Sir

I had not an opportunity since the receipt of your letter of conversing with Mr. Mantz until yesterday. He tells me they have been engaged about ten days in their work – but would not undertake to say how much longer it would occupy them. They have Stopped until Harvest shall be over. They cannot go on without running through the wheat fields & the crop is now too far advanced to allow them to pass through without injury. I should suppose the partition ought to be completed with ordinary industry in ten days more – Perhaps you may be able to come up after Harvest – & I have no doubt your presence would help on the work –

It will I fear be some time before I can get the plats prepared for you in the Carrollsburg case. Our Democratic Surveyor Executive turned out the Surveyor for this county & appointed a man who resides about thirty miles from Frederick Town & was2 at the time of his appointment a clerk in the Westminster Bank – He has Since been appointed Cashier of that institution, & means I understand to resign the appointment of Surveyor.1 We have not been able to do any thing with our ejectments Since he was appointed – He keeps no office here & is so distant that we have no communication with him – and our plats are likely to remain unaltered until he shall please to resign & let us have another –

I am Dr. Sir truly yours R. B. Taney
