Will you be good enough to inform me, whether or not, it is consistent, with the Custom Laws of the Un. States, for any one individual, to hold the office of Collector or deputy collector, of any district – and at the same time represent as an agent, the Insured, & the owners of foreign Goods wares & merchandize – such is now the fact with us – one individual is Deputy Collector, and also represents the merchandize – & cta – please write me upon the subject as soon as your engagements will allow you to do so – & by being verry explicit – you will verry much oblige yours verry respectfully & cta
