Family Relations (Taney Family) Supreme Court Travel and Touring, US Press Circuit Court
Sunday Feby 28. 1841

I had Some hope of a letter from you today my Dear Anne, but I was not very confident in the hope, – and yet I felt disappointed when I found there was none for me. The truth is the Sudden death of Judge Barbour, living as we did in the same mess, and in the same house has saddened us all – and we shall be very glad to get home again. It was intended at first to carry him to Virginia – but his brother thought it best to inter him here, & I have no doubt judged rightly. – We tomorrow resume our business in court, and shall give notice that the Court will not sit longer than the 10th of March – and that we shall hear no arguments after Saturday the 6th. – and it is most probable that we shall rise on Monday or Tuesday in next week. For after Saturday we remain here only to decide cases, and to write opinions, & as soon as that is done we shall adjourn even if it be before the 10th. —

If you read the news-papers you will see that I am to have new duties imposed upon me in consequence of Brother Barbours death and that Virginia is to be added to my circuit. However I have made no objection, for although I think it ought not to have been done – yet I have not more work than my other Brethren.

I find as I tax my memory that I have nothing new tell you – and with much love my Dear Anne to all –

I am most affectionately R. B. Taney
