Bank of the United States Banks, Pet Currency Popular Will Federalism Contracts Removal of Deposits
Baltimore April 10th 1833 To the President of the / United States

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of thy letter by Amos Kendall Esqr. – his imediate return to Washington deprived me of the opportunity of as much Conversation with him as I would have desired; in or paying him such attentions as my inclination would have prompted: But I had previously, under cover to the Attorney General addressed addressed a letter to thee, containing my views upon the subject of of using State Banks as the agents of government in the Collection and deposits of the Public monies, by which it will be seen that the false fears which I had previously entertained of the powers of the Bank of the United States in Such a Contingency were without any real foundation. —

I cannot believe that the Smallest difficulty will ever occur in relation to the Currency as long as the laws of the Several States can enforce the obligation of Contracts made under them, or that either the government or people will experience, in fact, any inconvenience from the distribution in Such of State Banks by the withdrawal of deposits from the the Bank of the United States a Contingency

I am with great respect and / Esteem
