Hunter followed against the Tariff— Then Toombs of Georgia for it. Then Billy Wick of Indiana, bitter upon Brinkerhoff the Ohio braggart. Charles H Carroll a Marylander transplanted to 29 New-York a Tariff whig contrasted by David Wilmot 12 Pennsylvania the solitary but serious anti tariff man from that State— Felix G M’Connell of Alabama decent? against the tariff I left him speaking and at 4 PM went and dined with Winthrop and the party at Mrs Whitwells—returned after 6. and found Barringer of North Carolina, speaking against the Bill.— Albert Smith 33 New-York for the tariff and Frederick P— Stanton 10 Tennessee against it had spoken while I was absent.— Barringer was followed by Orlando B Ficklin 3. Illinois, anti-tariff—then Joshua F. Bell 4. Kentucky. Tariff About 9 P.M Thomas Perry 2. Maryland took the floor for the Tariff— I was wearied out, left the house, missed a step in descending from the outer porch, fell prostrate and struck my left knee pan on the stone— Slight bruise Walked out of the yard. Met Thomas Dumphy with the Carriage and rode home.— After I left the house—Root of Ohio, Miller of New-York Daniel of North-Carolina—Hough of New-York, Hampton of New-Jersey, Houston of Delaware and Lewis of New-York kept the house in Session till Midnight when they adjourned to . . . the morning
