Went in a waggon and pair of horses to the Franconia Notch— Saw the Profile or Old Man of the Mountain. 11 Miles— Pond at the foot of the Mountain— Head of the Merrimack River. Pond half mile off head of Saco River. Mountains covered with Clouds—returned to Littleton— Halfway House— New Hampshire Iron works—did not see them. Specimens of Ore— At Noon went up to the Tower of the Littleton Meeting House— Saw the Top of Mount Washington Snow-cap’d— Snow fell last Night— Five or six Gentlemen at Littleton gave us a dinner— Revd. Mr Fairbanks— We left Littleton at 2. P.M. with the waggon and pair driven by Mr Gibb, our host and came to Ethan Allen Crawford’s— Hart’s Location 20 Miles— Wild Pigeons Blue Jays— A young Buck came and looked at us— Met at Crawford’s Mrs Charles Paine. 2 Mrs and 2 Misses Greenough and a boy— Dr Edward Warren— Mr Humphreys and two young men by name of Weld— Crawford’s Evening Guns and Ecchoes.
