Gaines— I spoke of the appointment of District judges, in the Western Districts of Virginia and New-York— Also of that of a Collect at Bath in the District of Maine

Mr Allen the Clergyman of Baltimore came this Evening, and left a volume of Mrs Allen’s poems as a present for Mrs Adams— Mr and Mrs Rush visited here— And Genl La Fayette, his Son, Mr Le Vasseur and de Syon returned from Mr Monroe’s at Loudoun— They left his house this Morning— The General has visited Mr Jefferson, Mr. Madison and Govr Barbour.

Mr Jefferson’s health is on the decline— Thomas and Alexr. H. Hopkinson here also this Evening.
