Repairs the Temple— Hilkiah the high Priest finds the Book of the Law— Huldah the prophetess predicts the accomplishment of the curses in the Book. Josiah renews the covenant with the Lord. 35. Josiah keeps the Passover in the 18th. year of his reign— There is an addition of nearly half a page, at the 19th. verse of this Chapter in the Septuagint— Stating the putting down of idolatry by Josiah; but that the Lord’s anger could not be appeased— Josiah quarrels with Pharaoh Necho, king of Egypt and is slain— Jeremiah’s Lamentations. 36. Joahaz made king by the People—reigns 3. Months— Taken by Pharoah Necho, who makes Eliakim son of Josiah, king and names him Jehoiakim—he reigns 11. years. Vanquished by Nebuchadnezzar. He dies and is succeeded by his Son Jeconiah—he reigns 3 Months and 10 days— Then Nebuchadnezzar, made Zedekiah, son of Josiah king. He reigns 11. years revolts, and is carried in captivity to Babylon— His eyes are put out, and his children put to death— After 70 years captivity Cyrus authorises the return of the Jews to Jerusalem.
