I am apprehensive of falling into a state of idleness, having wasted this day without useful occupation— I found several Letters here upon my arrival last Evening, and neglected answering them this day. The mail of this morning brought me a Letter from my Son John, dated at Washington, Sunday Evening the 22d. after his return, but in the hand-writing of his wife— I resumed the reading of the Bible, at Ezekiel Chapter 29.— Also Stone’s Letter to me upon Masonry and Anti-Masonry— And Mitchell’s Aristophanes, with which I compared Madame Dacier’s Translation of the Clouds and Brumoy’s Analysis of the same play in the Theatre des Grecs— Towards Evening I visited Mrs Ann Adams, my brother’s widow, whom I found much distressed— He died on the 12th. of March, leaving me the only Survivor of the family of the first generation from our Parents— Her daughter Mrs Angier was there, confined with a severe cold and cough— Elizabeth is absent on an excursion in Maine with Edward and Mrs MillerLouisa C Smith was also there. Isaac Hull at West-Point, Joseph Harrod a Midshipman gone to the Mediterranean with Commodore Patterson, John Quincy at School, at Mr Angier’sLieutt. Thomas B. stationed in North-Carolina. I called also at Mr John Greenleafs and delivered Letters to Mrs Greenleaf and Mrs G. M. Dawes.
