Left Meridian Hill at 8 this morning— Took the 9 O’Clock Stage for Baltimore—with my Son John, and John Porter—25 Minutes past 9 when we started—we had two Ladies and one man fellow passengers. We dined at Merrill’s and arrived at Barnum’s Hotel at Baltimore; about half past four P.M. Passed by the Railway about 7 miles before reaching the City.— We met at Merrill’s Dr. Collins who was coming on from Washington in his own Carriage— Met Mr John Barney at Barnum’s door. A number of visitors called. R. H. Lee—H. Niles, E. J. Coale, David Hoffman, Newman, Luke Tiernan, genl. Leakin, Mr Riston, I. Munro—J. Barney and several others— wrote to my wife— Evening at E. J. Coale’s. Mr Smith performed on the musical glasses, invented by his Grandfather judge Francis Hopkinson, and not by Dr Franklin.
