st.August 1847—
I had an indifferent nights rest, but took a walk this morning round the
long Square. The past midshipman John
Quincy, came to take leave, being ordered to Norfolk in
Virginia, and the Lieut his brother
has orders to repair to Charlestown— I rode after dinner with my Wife, Louisa. C. Smith and my Granddaughter
Mary Louisa, round Milton Hill—
Miss Mary E. E. Cutts, has been
some time, at Mr Hubbards a member of Congress at Middletown
Connecticut, and has promised to make us a visit, and was expected to
arrive last evening— My Grandaughter went to Boston to meet her, but she
did not come—
