Cold Northeastern Storm— I went to Boston with my son. I stop’d at Mr Bowditch’s house, and returned the three volumes of Schumachers Astronomische Nachrichten that I had borrowed—then at judge Davis’s to whom I returned Middleton’s Celestial Atlas with the companion, and Croswell’s chart which he had lent me. Dr Morse came in while I was there— Thence I went to Charles’s Office, and immediately after to the probate Office, where I met Mr George Fuller—who had left at Charles’s Office, my statement of account between him as Administrator of Moses Gill, and me as Adiministrator of Thomas Boylston, to which he agreed— I had not yet been able to make the transfer of the 18 shares of Stock of the Pennsylvanian United States Bank, but the judge observed that by paying the balance of 69.48. with a promise to make the transfer which can only be done at Philadelphia, my account might be hereafter settled at the probate office, without needing the further attendance of Mr Fuller— I gave him accordingly, Charles’s check on the merchants Bank for 69.48 at the Merchant’s Bank, and a promise to transfer the shares, and took his receipt in full of settlement, my promise being witnessed by Mr A. C. Spooner.— At Charles’s Office were Mr Nathaniel Curtis, and the two Sons of John Lane Boylston Ward Nicholas and Thomas.— The Trustees signed, and delivered to each of them a Letter offering him the power to occupy, Ward the Estate at Princeton, and Thomas, any part of the Estate at Roxbury, as directed by the Will— Ward desired to make enquiries what was the meaning of the word occupy, and Thomas took time to consider.— The Trustees signed also the Letters, prepared by my Son, to the President and fellows of Harvard University, to the selectmen of Princeton; to John Lane Boylston, and to his three daughters, Alicia, Mary Hallowell, and Louisa Catherine Adams Boylston, Advising each of the bequest to each of them, which took effect on the decease of Mrs Alicia Boylston I then called at Mr Abbott Lawrence’s house and saw Mrs Lawrence and Miss Anna their daughter. He was not at home— They have just returned from their Summer visit to England— At one, from Charles’s Office to Quincy— After dinner, Mr Samuel C. Mann of Dedham came and mentioned that on my way to Dedham to morrow morning a cavalcade escort would meet me at Paul’s bridge— Mr Robinson and Mr Vinson were here— Mr Vinson proposes to keep a school next Summer at Quincy Point.
