Hughes Christopher Thomas Dr Miss Mary Cutts Miss Smith Miss Wooster Miss Williams

As I draw towards the close of my Discourse, and feel the necessity of compressing my thoughts, the labour becomes more irksome, and my distrust of my own work more distressing— I find on reading over parts of what I have written tiresome diffuseness, and multitudinous repetitions— Soon after noon I went and gave a fourth sitting for my Portrait to Mr CharlesMr Hughes and Dr Thomas dined with us. Soon after 4. O’Clock, Hughes took leave of us, to return by the Railway Cars to Baltimore; whence he goes to embark at New-York on the 25th. of this Month for Liverpool— His gay and sprightly character, and inexhaustible Spirits are gone, but his kind and affectionate temper remain— After he and the Doctor were gone I finished my daily task, which I had not been able to complete before dinner— Miss Mary Cutts was here; but the Ladies were riding out, and she did not stay— In the evening Miss Wooster, Miss Williams, and Miss Smith three of the young Ladies teachers at Miss Breschard’s school were here— I took my twilight walk.
