Winthrop Thomas L Cranch— William Greenleaf Daniel

The Summer is opening, and the Sun at once disables me for active labour in my garden— I strolled there however morning and afternoon observing how the Sun scorches to death my seedling plants— The Elm seeds planted within the last Month continue to come up in various places— There are upwards of 100 above ground— I planted [symbols] and Strawberries, white and red—and more Elm seeds— Also one Garden Railway Strawberry, in the Quart Tumbler. Judge Cranch was here with Mr Daniel Greenleaf— The judge left Washington, Wednesday Morning after breakfast and arrived here yesterday about five in the afternoon 500 miles in 60 hours— I had also a morning visit from the late Lieutt. Governor T. L. Winthrop— Towards Evening I walked with Charles to Mr John Greenleaf’s, and afterwards to Mrs T. B. Adams’s, where we met Judge and Mrs Cranch, Mrs John GreenleafMrs and Joseph Angier, Mr Edward Miller’s daughter and Ann Beale— I walked home— Received a Letter with two Sermons from Mr Andrew Bigelow, who has recently been settled as Minister at Taunton; and a History of the United States from Mr Noah Webster—a School book for children.
