Mr Bigelow came to ask me to return the Report of the Committee of the Senate upon the Casaux claim in 1826, which I gave him— Lieutt. T. B. Adams went with me to the Capitol. It was a quarter past 11. and there had been a call of the House, so that we were for sometime excluded— The annual Report from the Commissioners of the sinking fund was received— About noon I went into the Senate chamber, and heard a debate between Webster, Tyler and Brown of North Carolina— Dallas began a Speech— I was called back to the House— Tariff-Bill in discussion— Motion to postpone the Bill till Monday rejected. 34Amendments to the clause on Wool and Woollens debated—RootBeardsley. J. Davis. StewartCraig and others— Yeas and Nays three times taken—votes varying. Beardsley told me no Bill could possibly pass at this Session— Adjourned at half past four. Walk with J. W. Taylor John’s child Fanny dangerously ill with the scarlet fever
