25. V:30. We took seats in the Barry Stage— George and Charles came and saw us into the Carriage— Charles returns this day to Cambridge; entering his Senior year at the University— At seven, of the morning we left Mr Cruft’s— Went round the City and took up several passengers; among whom my brother’s second daughter, Elizabeth Coombs Adams, at her uncle Foster’s in Bulfinch Place— She is going to pass the winter with us at Washington— We came through Cambridge, Watertown, Waltham, Weston, Sudbury, Lincoln, Stow, Bolton (where we dined) Lancaster, and Sterling, to Mr Boylston’s at Princeton, 47 miles— There was some difficulty at the turn of the road to go to Mr Boylston’s house— The driver however took it— In the hurry of taking out our baggage, the travelling bag and a box were left in and on the top of the Carriage, and were taken on to Barry. We found Mr Boylston convalescent from a severe illness, but well enough to receive us with perfect cordiality.
