19. VI. Morning ride with my father to Bent’s point— We stop’d at the House of Jedediah Adams, who at my father’s request lent me the old official copy of the Will of my father’s great-Grandfather Joseph Adams Senior, who died in 1694— In the afternoon we rode down to Mr Quincy’s, and saw Mrs Quincy and her Daughters— The eldest Susan lent me, several papers relating to the Quincy family; among them an authenticated copy of the Will of the secondEdmund Quincy, grandfather of my great Grandfather John Quincy—dated in 1697— Also a funeral Sermon upon the thirdEdmund Quincy, preached in 1737. by John Hancock Minister of the Church in Braintree— I read it this Evening to my father, who had never seen it before. This Edmund Quincy had been sent as the Agent of the Province to England; and died in London, of the Small-pox— And the grant from the Town of Boston, of Mount Wollaston, to the first Edmund Quincy, in the year 1633— Mr Henry Gray came out from Boston this afternoon, and brought papers respecting the capture of his Brig Otter, Captain Keating by a Porto-Rico Privateer— He asked me for a Letter to the Governor of Porto-Rico, which I promised to send him.
