1. V. I employed three hours this morning in writing— Walk before Breakfast and again before dinner— The Season is manifesting itself in all its severity.— I had a morning visit from Count de Bruges, and Mr Bayard spent part of the Evening with us; untill 11. He proposed a meeting on Monday at 2 O’Clock to consult together on the propriety of fixing a time beyond which he should not wait here, for the official information from this Government that the British Ministers have rejected the Emperors offered Mediation— I agreed to the meeting. Received from Count Romanzoff the Passport for Mr Todd, and Coll: Milligan, and addressed another Note to him concerning the cases of the Hector, and the Commerce.— I gave the leisure of the day to Biot and La Croix.— Gracious God! grant thy blessing upon my intentions; confirm the stability of my will; with Patience, Perseverance, Fortitude— Enlighen my Understanding, purify my heart, rule and correct my temper, and if it be thy will, let my life be useful upon Earth!
