11. Festival of St: Alexander Nefsky, and the Emperor’s name day. I was walking this morning with Charles, and met the Chancellor, Count Romanzoff, in the street— I had not before seen him, since his first departure with the Emperor for Wilna— He had while there two Strokes of Apoplexy, some trace of the effects of which is still apparent upon his countenance— But he told me he was recovered— I walked a second and a third time this day, in the Perspective— Met and walked once with Mr Saltus— The Accounts were this day received of a great, general Battle fought last Monday, between the French and Russian armies; and which is announced as a decisive and unqualified victory on the Russian side— Mr Harris was here in the Evening— Dr: Gibbs came again this morning, and lanced one of the child’s gums— But the violence of her illness increases; and none of the physicians have any hopes of her recovery.
