10. A night of frequent squalls and alternate calms; the vessel labouring very heavily— I was up three or four times in the Night, and got no sleep— Heavy Rains all the morning, with a sultry atmosphere— I think we must be in the gulf-stream— The water this morning was at 67. the air at 70— After several hours of copious rain the sky cleared off, but the remainder of the day was a flat calm, with a swell which made the vessel labour— Mrs: Adams was very sick, and the child troublesome— Catherine and Martha, were also both sick.— I read some chapters in the Bible, Plutarch’s life of Romulus, and some of Mrs: Grant’s letters from the Mountains— (Scotch Mountains.) A ship was seen this day at a distance— Latitude by Observation 43:49. Longitude 56:30.
