8. Mr: Boylston called on me this morning, respecting the appointment to the Professorship of Rhetoric and Oratory, founded by his uncle Nicholas Boylston, at Harvard College.— In Conversation with him, I stated to him the difficulties which yet prevent my acceptance of the place— I went with him and dined at my father’s; though we found they had dined before we arrived— My brother was at Dedham— Captain Richard Beale also called upon me respecting a claim he has against the Government. My reading was accordingly interrupted; but in the Evening I read a Chapter of Marshall.
