20. Between 4 and 5 this morning we started from New-Haven; with the Englishman; and two Germans mentioned yesterday— A Ship-Captain, who had arrived alone in the Stage from Hartford, and several others, who travell’d with us only part of the day— We breakfasted at Stratford 16 Miles from New-Haven— Then went through Fairfield, 20 miles more to Norwalk, to dinner; and thence through Stamford, over Horse-Neck, and Byrom river, which divides the States of Connecticut and New-York, 18 Miles to Rye.— Before dark we got in, at Penfield’s; a very good house— The day has been very fine— The roads, excepting over horse-Neck, good— Distance travell’d 54 miles. The Inn at Rye, was full of travellers, to and from New-York.
