1. Began this morning to read the third volume of Buchholz’s History of the Electorate of Brandenburg. My patience in reading this book has held out beyond my expectations.— The two first volumes, which I have now read, only bring down the History to the year 1457 When the sovereignty was established in the present reigning house— The preceding period is very obscure and the Events dubious.— The knowledge of such History can be of very little use.— Spent the Evening at Prince Ferdinand’s— Casino, with Mlle: de Marwitz, Miss Hagen and Count Lottum.— Did not stay to supper.
