8. Captain Rice here. Walk; met Mr: Uribarri; who seems well pleased with his Country’s Peace. At Mr: Van Swinden’s towards Evening. He is a member of the Committee of Marine. Conversed on the subject of Houghton’s business; and of Cowing. Great professions of regard, friendship, attachment to the United States; of disposition to gratify me personally; but most dear determination to confiscate Houghton’s property and keep Cowing in prison.

Went to lounge at the play. Condemned to hear Paul et Virginie through.
