Friday September 26. 1794. This morning early we discovered another fishing schooner laying to; at about 8 A.M. we came to ourselves and sounded but without 9finding any bottom at about 140 fathom. a couple of cod-hooks were baited and annexed to the lead but we were not more successful in fishing than in sounding. after about half an hour of this sport exhausted our Captain’s patience, and we proceeded upon our voyage with a gale still favourable and fresh. A brig pass’d us at about noon steering to the South & eastward.
